BIRD
ILLUSTRATIONS
Illustrated Poster and Patterns
This illustration (and surface pattern series) was inspired by the Great White Pelicans of St. James’s Park in London. Introduced in 1664, these birds have become a beloved and surprising presence in the city.
Near the lake in St. James’s Park, you can see them waddling around the park, sunning themselves, being fed fresh fish, and pushing tourists off of the park benches!
They were first introduced there in 1664. The current birds are Isla, Tiffany, Gargi, Sun, Moon and Star. These are call Great White Pelicans, but in Spring they are tinged pink. This is from changes in diet and also indicates when they are in breeding season.
